Care and advocate for chronically ventilated patients as a member of an inter-professional team across widely varying care continuums. A supportive role that allows for active participation in patient care, assessment and interventions, respiratory rehabilitation and multidisciplinary education (Patient/ Family/ RRT/ Nursing and Allied staff/ Students). Development and implementation of care plans, discharge planning (i.e., understanding of AADL guidelines), collaboration with outside agencies with the goal of facilitating patient quality of life. Provide technical support of all equipment related to the Calgary Zone Chronic Ventilator Program. This position is a pivotal member of the interprofessional team and works collaboratively with all disciplines. Ongoing contribution to departmental and CZCVP improvement processes. Maintain professional practice including, but not limited to ongoing professional development, encouragement of a positive and supportive work environment, and consistent demonstration of AHS values. Promotion of a healthy, respectful, safe work atmosphere. This is a multi-site position that requires the use of a vehicle. Current areas of work are at the Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre, Peter Lougheed Centre, and various clinics. Assignment area may change based on operational needs deemed appropriate by Manager and their delegate.

As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Current BCLS-HCP Certification required. Minimum 1 years of independent clinical Respiratory Therapy experience within the last 5 years in an acute care hospital setting required (acceptable acute care experience includes adult critical care, outreach, NICU, emergency department, wards and pediatrics).

Experience in patient, family, and staff education. Experience working as a RRT outside the acute care hospitals. Current Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists registered member preferred. Minimum 1-year Respiratory Therapy experience with CZCVP and/or in-depth knowledge of chronic ventilators, within the last 5 years. Experience with ALS patients/Chronic Ventilation/Home ventilators preferred. 1 year experience in outpatient clinics within the last 3 years.
