The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As the Canada Tax Manager, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Be the key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders for Canada, building strong cross-functional relationships and operate as a business partner and not merely an in-house tax advisor
- All direct and indirect tax compliance is out-sourced and the role will work with advisors to ensure the accurate and timely completion of tax disclosures in accounts, corporate tax returns and other compliance filings
- Lead tax authority communications and tax controversy and audits
- Lead work to identify and claim any incentives (e.g. R&D) working with external advisors to support claims where required
- Support the US Provision team in all aspects of US GAAP relating to the entities in scope, including cash tax forecasting and payments, quarterly provision, return to provision and uncertain tax positions
- Support the transfer pricing team and transfer pricing external advisors to ensure the group’s transfer pricing policies are implemented and monitored
- Lead / support tax matters relating to business transformation and supply chain projects including M&A integration activities
- Lead the global Permanent Establishment monitoring and approval activities working with other country / regional leaders to conclude on issues
- Lead the global MDR tracking activities using third party tools to log any reportable events and work with advisors and country / regional tax leads to ensure reporting obligations are met
- Keep up-to-date with legislation developments and communicate to the team and support other projects relevant to the region, and more broadly, including BEPS and Hybrid-mismatch
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in accounting, finance or tax from an accredited institution
- Seven (7) years of Canada corporate tax experience with public accounting experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Relevant qualifications in accounting and tax (e.g., CA, CPA, LLM)
- International corporate income tax knowledge in the countries in scope, including understanding of international technical topics such as participation exemption, DEMPE, tax treaty application, and interaction between local statutory filings and tax returns in a private, public, government or military environment
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), leadership abilities and desire to collaborate across the function and organization
- Proven ability to use analytics and influencing skills to drive results
- Exhibited sense of urgency to drive effective change and manage performance
- OneSource Tax Provision experience
