This Opportunity

The Director of Instruction - Curriculum reports to the Superintendent of Schools/CEO and works collaboratively with other members of the Senior leadership team to advance the vision and mission of the district. This position is responsible for the overall supervision and leadership of the District’s Curriculum Department.

Guided by the District’s strategic plan, the Director of Instruction - Curriculum defines and implements long-term goals, strategies, and plans; oversees the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning; supports school plans; provides leadership and direction regarding District-wide assessment practices, including tracking and communicating student learning; supervises and monitors the development and implementation of appropriate instructional resources and programs; and monitors and reports regularly on results achieved, with particular emphasis on student learning.

To ensure the quality of educational programs and further our commitment to equitable and inclusive schools, the Director of Instruction - Curriculum engages stakeholders, sponsors and leads innovation, and develops individual and team leadership capacity. The Abbotsford School District is seeking a courageous and resilient leader with exceptional interpersonal skills, the ability to apply a systems lens to issues, opportunities, and change, and a strong background in instructional leadership and resource management. The ideal candidate will be able to engage stakeholders in a shared vision and actions to support a meaningful learning experience that acknowledges social, cultural, and economic diversity.

Qualifications

A Master’s degree in a relevant field

A member in good standing with the Teacher Regulation Branch

Successful leadership experience in the public school system, preferably at both the school and district levels

Deep understanding and experience with K-12 literacy, numeracy, inquiry, assessment, and competency-based learning pedagogies

Knowledge and recognition of Indigenous education and commitment to reconciliation practices

Experience leading a range of educational priorities

Ability to build an effective leadership team and create a positive adult learning environment

Systems sensibility, political awareness, and change management skills

Demonstrated ability to make complex and ethical decisions in service of students

Solid understanding of public education governance
