The starting annual salary for this School Teacher position ranges from $61,838 to $108,458, with placement on the July 1, 2024 Teacher Salary Grid based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.

Job Summary & Responsibilities

Reporting to CORE, itinerant ELL teachers work directly with English language learners at assigned elementary, middle and/or secondary schools. As a contributing member of the District English Language Learning team, the successful applicant is required to generate AIPs using appropriate testing materials such as IPT or BC ELL Standards. They will model culturally responsive teaching and support English language learners with inquiry-based learning.

Education & Experience

Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Certificate from an accredited program

Abbotsford Academic English Language Program certification

Training and experience administering and interpreting IPT Assessments

Experience teaching ELL learners at the elementary, middle or secondary school levels

Experience using technology to facilitate language acquisition

Experience with the blended model of instruction to support English language acquisition

Experience implementing the full cycle of teacher collaboration (leading collaboration meetings, Co-teaching, co-assessing, co-planning)

Experience building connections and presenting to stakeholders (school-based teams, District departments, parents, community services, etc.)

Valid BC Driver's license and access to personal vehicle

Eligible for B.C. Certification

Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports

Classroom Management: Create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behavior and classroom dynamics.

Facilitation & Engagement: Ability to capture and maintain students’ interest, effort, participation and enthusiasm for both the content and the process of learning

Assessment & Coaching: Utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies.

Collaboration & Teamwork: Collaborate with others to achieve group goals and objectives

Caring & Inclusiveness: Create and maintain an environment that is caring, inclusive and supportive of all students

Flexibility & Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility in the ability to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances
