Summary of Position:

Are you passionate about infrastructure and its impact on communities? We are looking for a Communications Coordinator to join Aecon Group Inc. Aecon is selected as the Design Builder for the Elevated Guideway Project of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, in Ontario. The Communications Coordinator serves as a key liaison with the Construction management team/on-site construction crews, and members of the public.

The Communications Coordinator will work with the Communications team to develop and execute initiatives that support the Aecons Elevated Guideway Projects communication, community relations and community benefits programs. This position reports to the Communications and Public Engagement Lead.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the development of public information materials that engages, educates, and builds trust with stakeholders and community members affected by the construction activities.
  • Gather facts and information about the project to contribute to the development of communications plans, and communication materials in print, digital or social media formats (e.g., feature stories, backgrounders, fact sheets, digital/copy writing, presentations, news releases, signs, Q&A).
  • Draft materials and implement plans for communication, community engagement, and community benefits as assigned by the Communications and Public Engagement Lead.
  • Develop and write compelling and relevant content for the Projects social media channels, the Project Website as well as for internal and external newsletters.
  • Support the planning and execution of special events to mark and celebrate Project milestones.
  • Create content for updating of information of the Elevated Guideway Projects website.
  • Identify, track, and report Project-related issues to be addressed and recommends plans to address issues.
  • Identify stories of interest for social media, project blog, project newsletters and other audiences.
  • Maintain a positive, flexible and responsive attitude, professional image and team-oriented style.
  • Build and maintain an information inventory (e.g., graphics and video).
  • Contribute to the development of weekly communication work plan/schedule.
  • Support the designing of digital and print campaigns (such as posters, notices, invitations, e-newsletters, as assigned.
  • Assist with other duties that may be assigned by the Communications and Public Engagement Lead.
  • Attend Communications Working Group Meeting, as required.
  • On a rotating schedule with the other Community Relations person, staff the Project Community Office to deal face-to-face with community inquiries, where required.
  • Track all public inquiries and provide regular updates on the metrics.
  • Liaise with the team and the client to respond to public inquiries (in-person, by telephone or via email) about design and construction activities (including information on construction schedules, transit and traffic impacts, community meetings, etc.) in a timely and efficient manner

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in communications, public relations, marketing, or journalism.
  • Minimum five years progressively responsible and related experience in communications, including communications on infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of traditional and social media platforms, analytical tools, and social media best practices to support communications, community engagement, and community benefits objectives.
  • Working knowledge of Web and design utilities such as CMS, HTML, Adobe Creative Suite, accessibility tools and AODA standards.
  • Must be energetic and comfortable with a fast-paced environment with constantly changing needs.
  • Experience working with local or provincial governments is an asset.
  • Highly organized with demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Meticulous attention to detail.
