Position Overview

Aecon is looking for an Environmental Coordinator to support the Holdom Overpass Project located in Burnaby, BC. This is a permanent full-time on-site position Monday to Friday.

Reporting to the Environmental Manager, the Environmental Coordinator will perform monitoring and reporting duties associated with the Construction Environmental Management Plan and all relevant permits. In addition, the Environmental Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in preparing guidance documents to safeguard water, air, and land quality and ensure the protection of wildlife and wildlife habitat during all construction activities. The Environmental coordinator will work closely with the operations teams tasked to install environmental controls and mitigation measures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Report to the Environmental Manager;
  • Monitor the Construction for compliance with the environmental requirements of the Contract Documents, including Permits and the Construction Environmental Management Plan;
  • Be familiar with relevant aspects of the Work as they relate to Permits and environmental management documentation.
  • Verify that copies of spill response plans, emergency procedures, and other applicable environmental and heritage protection documents are maintained at the Site at all times;
  • participate in Construction meetings as necessary, including pre-work orientation meetings;
  • advise Construction supervisor(s) and Environmental Manager if project activities have caused or are likely to cause an environmental incident and make recommendations for corrective action(s);
  • provide technical advice to Construction supervisor(s) for the purpose of resolving situations that may impact the environment as they arise;
  • to the extent relevant to environmental management, documenting Construction activities, mitigation measures, and environmental incidents by means of field notes and photographs

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Post-Secondary education in Biological Sciences or Environmental Engineering or Diploma in Environmental Technology
  • 2-5 years of experience in the delivery/management of an environmental compliance program
  • First Nations [status or non-status], Mtis, or Inuit applicants are encouraged to apply
  • Experience in the construction industry will be an asset
  • Experience in developing, implementing, monitoring, and tracking environmental practices and performance
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation in British Columbia
  • Knowledge of construction site erosion, sediment controls and Best Management Practices

The expected pay range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000.
