Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Shop Foreman, the Heavy Duty On Highway Truck Mechanic will be responsible for preventative and corrective maintenance, inspections, modifications, installation and dismantling of systems, and diagnosing/repairs of earthmoving/paving construction equipment. The Heavy Duty On Highway Truck Mechanic will sit out of our Medicine Hat, Alberta shop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures all Workplace Safety, Environmental and National Safety Code Policies and Regulations are being adhered to.
  • Read diagrams/schematics and manufacturers repair manuals for work procedures.
  • Operate a hoist and lift device to position machinery parts in a safe manner.
  • Inspect and examine vehicles and equipment.
  • Lubricate, service, diagnose, repair, assemble, and maintain vehicles and equipment.
  • Timely and accurate diagnosis and repair including computer connection/diagnosis with machine to identify fault codes.
  • Provides guidance and instruction to less experienced, or apprentice maintenance personnel.
  • Performing hands on maintenance and repairs of all equipment.
  • Diagnosing electrical, mechanical and hydraulic troubles.
  • Making repairs according to the manufacturers specifications.
  • Preform CVIP as per requirements.
  • Suggest positive changes to policy and procedures as required.
  • Initiative, diligence and reliability.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Would be required to work on construction equipment as well as on highway trucks.
  • Make road trips when required to maintain / repair on highway trucks and or construction equipment
  • Will be required to work on some weekends
  • Other duties as required.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • 2+ years as a certified Heavy Duty On- Highway Truck Mechanic
  • Journeyman Certificate (Red Seal) Heavy Equipment Technician.
  • CVIP certification or willing to obtain.
  • Dual tickets will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent mechanical knowledge.
  • Physically fit, heavy lifting required.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must Comply with the company's drug & alcohol program, including testing requirement.
  • Fewer than 6 demerit points on drivers abstract.
