The Visual Communications Manager is responsible for designing and managing visual communication pieces for Air Canada's publishing platforms, including Horizons eMagazine, The Daily newsletter, and HZTV digital billboards. The role involves conceptualizing and executing creative solutions, managing production from conception to completion, and working closely with senior management and various stakeholders. 

Responsibilities:

  • Design for internal corporate communications vehicles like: Horizons eMagazine, The Daily newsletter and HZTV digital billboards.
  • Review and analyze customer requests to determine best vehicles
  • Work from often-complicated messaging to conceptualize and execute creative solutions for multiple visual platforms
  • Design visual communication pieces and strategies including overall theme development, individual piece designs, etc.
  • Submit strategies and creative deliverables within the agreed upon deadline and budget
  • Manage production of all design pieces from conception to completion including printed materials
  • Work efficiently with vendors on the development of needed client materials
  • Perform pre- and post-production quality checks
  • Creatively seek out new products and maintain cutting edge industry knowledge
  • Lead and attend design meetings as assigned
  • Work closely with the Director, Visual Communications and Editor of Horizons

Qualifications

  • Four-year related degree and a minimum of 5 years design experience in an in-house creative department or design firm.
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of InDesign automation features
  • Strong conceptual skills, high level sense of design, layout and typography.
  • Strong creative, organizational, problem solving and time-management skills.
  • Strong language skills to read through content and break down information for design execution.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Expert understanding of all graphic production processes.
  • Adaptable and quick learner.
  • Must be able to apply branding style guides creatively while upholding brand identity for Air Canada.
  • Experience with in5, HTML, and motion graphics a plus.
