JUNIOR HIGH / HIGH SCHOOL NUMERACY INSTRUCTIONAL COACH

JOB GOAL:

The Junior High/High School Numeracy Instructional Coach will lead efforts to support

improved numeracy instruction to ensure that each student is able to reach his or her academic

potential. Their primary role is to work with the Mathematics teachers in supporting best practices

in using data, analyzing school-wide instructional trends, and recommending next steps in

addressing areas of need in student learning.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

? Observation of instructional delivery and provision of feedback to teachers to enhance and

support their growth in numeracy instruction

? Modeling of lessons to teachers and facilitation of numeracy professional development

? Support of teachers and/or teams of teachers in unit and lesson design and in developing

long-range plans

? Data analysis to determine adaptations and/or modifications of curriculum and assessment

to meet student needs

? Assisting teachers in diagnosing individual student areas for growth in mathematics and

recommending appropriate strategies and interventions

? Collaboration with Academic Leadership Team to support the sharing of best practices

? Assisting in the creation of system-wide numeracy practices and procedures

? Support in recommending instructional resources

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

? Four-year University teaching degree in Elementary, Junior High, or Secondary Education

? Teaching experience at the Junior High or High School level

? Recognized professional teaching certification

? Proficiency in English with excellent pronunciation

? Strong record of assisting students in achieving academic success

? Significant experience with Math curriculum development

? Ability to teach in a cross-curricular and 21st Century learning environment

? Commitment to ongoing professional development and professionalism

? Proactivity in seeking opportunities to integrate information technology into the curriculum

? Adaptability to new cultures and languages

? Ability to work within the culture of a Professional Learning Community

? Ability to work on a team with intercultural teaching partners and other grade team

members

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

? Experience coaching, leading, and supporting teachers in applying research-based best

practices and instructional approaches

? Experience in conducting numeracy staff development

? Experience working with ELL students

? Teaching experience at multiple grade levels

? Experience in analyzing data and using results to modify curricula

? Evidence of successful leadership in math content at a grade level, building level or district

level

? Willingness to contribute to take an active part in committees, the school community, design

teams and school initiatives
