Description
We are looking for an experienced Addiction Counsellor III to join our team at the Red Deer Children's Mental Health and Addiction Outpatient Clinic. The successful candidate will be experienced at providing counselling for children and youth with substance abuse concerns for themselves or a caregiver. The addiction counsellor must be comfortable to deliver concurrent counselling and managing crisis situations. Treatment and prevention responsibilities will involve assessment, counselling, treatment planning, group facilitation, delivery of prevention programs and supporting referrals. There is an expectation of open practice where you work collaboratively with co-workers and supervisors to promote learning and development of clinical skills within a multidisciplinary team environment. This role may support other duties as assigned which could include meeting clients at community agencies, schools, or supporting drop-in services within the clinic. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.
Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.
Minimum 2 years of experience in Addiction Counselling. Minimum 2 years' experience working with children youth and families in a mental health setting.
Training in Motivational Interviewing, harm reduction, DBT and CBT and solution focused therapy. Experience with walk-ion single session considered an asset.
