Description
Calgary - Addiction Counsellor III - Youth Substance Use & Mental Health Services is looking for an energetic individual to join the Youth Recovery Program (YRP), an urban based treatment program for substance use and mental health services for adolescents. The successful candidate will possess strong team work, communication, and engagement skills. Through partnering with a contracted agency, the successful candidate will be able, and expected to build, foster and maintain relationships with contracted agency staff that work at the treatment program by providing clinical expertise, consultation, and mentorship in a collaborative manner. Knowledge of adolescent development, substance abuse issues, mental health issues, as well as strong consultation and group facilitation skills, are essential. You will carry a caseload, facilitate individual and group sessions, and make referrals to other internal and external programs as required. Your strong clinical skill base will allow for flexibility in responding to the operating needs of the program. Evening and weekend work may be required. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.
Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.
Minimum 2 years' experience working with adolescents with substance use/mental health issues.
Experience in “live in” therapeutic treatment would be an asset. Brain Story Certification.
