The leadership candidate for Unit 31 is one who has strong interest in renal medicine. The preferred candidate needs to be capable of working effectively in a collaborative team environment-focusing on three major priorities: 1) Patients First: Involving patients and families and their other providers in planning care to ensure one unified approach to care. 2) High Performing Teams: Engaging and empowering the whole workforce in collaborative care planning and delivery. 3) Quality Culture: Efficient, informed, safe, proactive, and responsive decision-making to improve the quality of care delivered locally every day. This environment is suitable for candidates who have current medical nursing experience, coordinating nursing experience and leadership training. You are self- motivated, progressive, and result orientated with experience in supervision of nursing care. You demonstrate ability to consistently maintain and facilitate effective relationships within an interdisciplinary setting. You possess the ability to provide assistance in clinical staff development, effectively mentor staff, and guide them to working full scope of practice. You have demonstrated efficient utilization of financial and clinical resources. At the unit and department level, you have participated in quality improvement activities and contribute to the development and revision of policy and procedure. You proactively take responsibility for maintaining competence through professional development activities. You demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot and anticipate problem situations initiating effective solutions.

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Baccalaureate degree required. Minimum 5 years medical nursing experience in an acute care clinical setting with two years proficient progressive leadership. Ability to effectively function in a charge nurse capacity. Successful completion of CNEPH certification strongly encouraged. Demonstrated ability to plan, assess, and coordinate complex care for acute medical patients. Competence in relevant technical nursing skills and a willingness to learn new skills as required. Demonstrates responsibility for maintaining own competence through professional development activities. Good communication skills and the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships Ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
