The Assistant Head Nurse candidate for the position in Endoscopy is an individual with a strong interest in an ambulatory setting, with strong knowledge of Endoscopic procedures, and interventions. The preferred candidate must be keenly aware of AHS’ Foundational Strategies. Patient First: Patients and families are at the center of all health care activities, decisions and teams. You are a clinical resource and can mentor and develop new staff. You are also able to maintain effective working relationships with members of the healthcare team. The candidate also can demonstrate maintenance of clinical competency, with procedural care skills that are current and effective. You can troubleshoot and anticipate problems and generate effective solutions that maintain safety in the department.

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Ability to meet the physical demands of the job. 2 years in the last 5 experience in Endoscopy. Procedural sedation certification. To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered please attach a resume and cover letter with your application.

Baccalaureate degree prefered. Experience assisting a variety of procedures such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP and stent insertions. Past leadership experience an assest.
