Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a senior biostatistician to provide advanced biostatistical expertise to academic researchers and clinician scientists affiliated with the Arthur Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre on research projects related to cancer. Our goal is to be a leader in cancer detection, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care, all on a foundation of world-class research. You will work with clinician scientists and researchers on a variety of projects. The position is embedded in a team of analysts, senior analysts, programmers, and an epidemiologist, who work collaboratively on developing and providing analysis and evidence to answer important research questions and drive health system improvements. However, the role is oriented toward providing biostatistical expertise on academic research projects. This is a leadership position within Cancer Advanced Analytics, Cancer Research & Analytics, Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) team, with a focus on research conducted out of the Arthur Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre. The role is for 12 months with a likelihood of extension.
As a senior biostatistician, you will provide advanced biostatistical expertise to researchers and clinician scientists affiliated with the Arthur Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre. You will lead and provide expertise on new scientific methodologies. You will use your knowledge of statistics to collaborate with researchers, develop methods for data gathering, and conduct and oversee the analysis and interpretation of existing clinical data and novel quantitative research data. You may be involved in the development of research methodologies and analytical plans for grant applications. You may be involved in peer-review publications of the work. In this role, you will rely on your in-depth knowledge and experience to develop and plan methodological approaches and perform a range of biostatistical analysis, inferential statistical analyses, and/or modeling activities to support and lead research projects. You will work with local academic researchers and clinician scientists, as well as external collaborators to help develop, articulate, and answer scientific questions related to cancer. You will support researchers and clinician scientists with methods development, sample size estimations, and data pulls, determining the variables and measures required to address the question, and will devise analytic plans, conduct and/or oversee appropriate analysis, and provide a scientific interpretation of the results. This position will work with Medical Advanced Research Computing (MARC). In addition, you will provide supervision and mentorship to analysts and serve as an expert resource to address statistical and technical questions posed by analysts, researchers, and clinician scientists. You will recommend best practice in the development, application, and use of statistical and biostatistical tools to strengthen and support investigator-led projects.
Completion of PhD in Statistics or Biostatistics. Minimum of 2 years as a biostatistician or related experience. Master’s degree in Statistics or Biostatistics or Epidemiology with 5 years of applicable experience will be considered. Extensive knowledge of statistical theory and application. Experience with statistical analyses of complex and large datasets including advanced multivariate and longitudinal modeling. Experience with population-based data. Experience with Sample size estimation, clinical trials and mentorship. Advanced expertise with statistical computing in Python and R. Proven statistical computing skills and some Machine Learning. Experience working with administrative databases and sources. Experience in a consultation/instruction role. Experience with the application of machine learning using in health care. Biostatistical consulting experience. Experience in oncology.
Organized, resourceful and self-starting, with meticulous attention to detail. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to use sound judgment and diplomacy while interacting with staff and clients.
5 years of experience in health data, preferably administrative data. P.Stat. or A.Stat. Designation with the Statistical Society of Canada.
