Acute Care Alberta (ACA) has a key leadership position available as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Lead for Corporate Services (CFO). Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you are jointly responsible for establishing the vision, goals, and leadership for ACA. The CFO provides strategic recommendations and direction on business and financial planning, risk and compliance, and financial performance. This integral position is accountable for strategic allocation of funds, effective financial management, and performance reporting critical to decision-making across the health system. This position is responsible for corporate services including finance, legal, communications, HR, capital management, internal audit, and IT. The CFO also oversees the development and implementation of ACA's human capital strategies which includes workforce planning, recruitment, training/education, employee development and performance appraisal processes. As an accomplished leader, you establish and maintain positive relationships with local, provincial, and national representatives and stakeholders, including government departments and officials, to provide operational leadership and oversight to the corporate programs and services of ACA, provincial clinical service delivery organizations, and healthcare service delivery organizations that ACA is accountable to fund. ACA, new provincial health agency that will provide acute care services, work directly with service providers, including AHS, Covenant Health, Lamont Health Care Centre and chartered surgical facilities to improve access to high-quality care, reduce wait times and make sure every patient’s journey through the acute care system is efficient and effective across the province. Work location for this position is negotiable within Alberta.

The CFO develops and monitors financial objectives and performance, establishes short- and long-term financial priorities, and oversees the strategic allocation of funds within ACA to achieve required outcomes. The CFO is accountable for the strategic allocation of funds to applicable provincial clinical service delivery organizations and healthcare service delivery organizations, including Alberta Health Services, Covenant Health, Lamont Health Care Centre, and other areas to support the broader mandates and direction from Alberta Health. While providing strategic advice on business and financial planning, the position is accountable for the integration and coordination of the delivery of financial services, budget management, forecasting, and financial reporting. The CFO ensures the overall efficacy of ACA through the maintenance of good working relationships with the provincial government, specifically Alberta Health and Alberta Treasury Board and Finance, as well as other external stakeholders. The position ensures compliance is carried out and in accordance with all required governance principles while monitoring business performance and developing tools to report results. This position establishes an integrated framework to use corporate services via a transitional service agreement with Alberta Health Services, including but not limited to, finance, human resources, communications, internal audit, legal, capital management, and IT. The CFO develops effective relationships and fosters a climate of cooperation with public agencies, governments, boards, regulatory bodies, committees, and community partners.

A master’s degree in accounting, business, or finance or equivalent experience is required for this position. The incumbent must also be a designated Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). The successful candidate possesses ten (10) years or more of senior management experience. A combination of qualifications and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate has demonstrated ability to develop organization strategy and planning, lead strategic initiatives, and manage change to achieve positive results. In addition to their proven leadership abilities, including comfort with decision-making and exercising sound judgement, the successful candidate possesses an ability to influence, negotiate, and mediate resolutions to complex situations. Utilizing excellent verbal and written skills, you communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences, including interpersonal and public relations skills, fostering partnerships to achieve organizational goals. Furthermore, you model innovation and creativity and engage in ethical conduct.

Previous senior management experience in a health care setting or public service sector is preferred.
