Description
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) acute care with the Palliative Care Consult Service-Foothills Medical Centre/Arthur Child Comprehensive Cancer Center provides an advanced level of nursing practice that maximizes the application of in-depth nursing theory, knowledge and skills in meeting the complex health care needs of individuals, families and communities. The CNS functions as a palliative consultant, nursing practice leader, expert practitioner, educator and researcher within Palliative and End of Life Care. The CNS is responsible for the advancement of palliative care activities, working within the inpatient, outpatient and surrounding community. The CNS in acute care with the Palliative Care Consult Service (Foothills Medical Centre) provides advanced, expert nursing consultation for palliative and end of life (EOL) care for in-patients living in the Calgary Zone. The CNS collaborates with leadership and attending teams in all locations of care to build and maintain palliative and EOL care competencies. Lead teams of multiple stakeholders to solve system or care challenges through quality improvement (QI), evaluation and research activities and facilitate implementation of these solutions. Responsibilities include clinical practice and consultation, education, program planning, change leadership, CoP facilitation, research and involvement with policy development related to advanced nursing care and health systems related to Palliative Care.
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), you will provide an advanced level of nursing practice that maximizes the application of in-depth nursing theory, knowledge and skills in meeting the complex health care needs of individuals, families and communities. You will function as a nursing practice leader, consultant, expert practitioner, educator and researcher within a clinical specialty area. You will balance various roles depending upon the needs of the patient population and the healthcare team, collaborating on the provision of holistic and comprehensive care. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Master's degree in Nursing. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). 3-5 years CNS experience. 5-7 years Palliative Focused Clinical experience in the last 10 years. 3-5 years consultation experience. Excellent communication skills. Proficient utilizing Epic. Experienced and skilled at managing intense emotional situations.
Completed Serious Illness Conversation Guide course. Completed How to Care, What to Say. Experience and trained in Trauma Informed Care.
