The Calgary Zone Simulation Consultant provides leadership in the eSIM Provincial Simulation Program and is part of the Provincial Patient Safety team. Simulation touches all aspects of patient care delivery, including teamwork, communications, resource management, occupational risks, human factors, research and quality improvement. A successful Simulation Consultant must have an understanding of all of these aspects as well as a high level of clinical expertise. A Simulation Consultant also collaborates with people who have external expertise and facilitates the integration of this expertise into simulation education, research and development.

Please enter informaIn this role, and working with the larger eSIM team provincially, the Simulation Consultant applies their expertise in experiential education to support the direction and development of a comprehensive framework for simulation education. The Simulation Consultant supports and mentors clinical experts/educators by providing simulation expertise for the design, validation, delivery, and evaluation of simulation curriculum, courses and training that adheres to best practice principles, quality outcomes, and supports compliance with accreditation standards. The Simulation Consultant also partners with multiple internal and external stakeholders including site/zone programs, educational institutions, municipal agencies (fire, police, and emergency management), government and provincial partners to develop and coordinate outreach simulation activities. The Simulation Consultant designs and develops new simulation scenarios, guides the integration of simulation-based interventions into curricular, and aids in the delivery of these curricula to all members of the healthcare team. They are also accountable for providing ongoing frontline and medical team development support, teaching, and mentorship of educators using simulation-based education. The Simulation Consultant is also accountable for planning, coordinating and facilitating special simulation education sessions such as conferences and workshops, and participate in research activities when required. They will engage in program evaluation to help the program meet accreditation standards and will incorporate research, evidence-based practices and emergent advances in education and simulation.

A bachelor's degree in a health sciences discipline with a minimum of five (5) years clinical experience. Current registration with an appropriate professional body (e.g. CARTA, CARNA, etc.). Training: Some formal training in simulation education. Some training in the design and delivery of adult education. Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience with simulation education. Experience in the provision of clinical education. Some recent clinical experience. Competencies: A team player with strong communication, relational, coaching, and organizational/program evaluation skills. Computer literate with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Has the ability to plan and carry out responsibilities with minimum supervision and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Should have progressive leadership, team building, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills and abilities. Client or customer management skills.

Must be willing to travel throughout the zone as needed. Must be physically able to lift and move simulators and associated equipment (> 50Lbs).

Education: Graduate degree in a healthcare discipline. Training: Certification in simulation training/education (i.e., CHSE). Experience: Experience with research/publications, quality improvement/safety projects, and ongoing active clinical work. Competencies: Understanding of simulation challenges (clinical, operational, technological). Knowledge of principles/theories of adult education, simulation modalities, clinical applications, and project management processes/tools.
