Description
Reporting to the Manager Nutrition Services, this position works with a high degree of independence to improve the health of the population using a range of health promotion strategies. The focus of practice includes support and delivery of nutrition for Health for Two in Public Health Centers and Outreach Clinics throughout the Edmonton zone. The position is responsible for maternal and infant nutrition health education and support of this client group and program providers. In addition, the position provides nutrition expertise to health professionals, groups and communities in the planning, delivery and evaluation of programs designated as priorities by Population and Public Health Services.
As a Dietitian I, you may provide nutrition expertise to patients (clients, residents) in various AHS facilities and community settings to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. You may be responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition care plans. You may plan and provide public health nutrition services and education programs to promote healthy living and disease prevention for clients/groups in facilities or community settings. Nutrition education is provided to students and other healthcare professionals to support delivery of evidence based nutrition information.
Bachelor of Science with a major in Foods and Nutrition. Completion of an internship program or practicum training program accredited by the Dietitians of Canada. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta (CDA).
Ability to interpret and convey nutrition requirements and recommendations across the life span in practical ways. Self-directed with expertise in acquiring, assessing, analyzing, interpreting and communicating scientific evidence to different audiences.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in population health promotion. Experience with multidisciplinary health care teams with inter-disciplinary/inter-sector systems and with community-based services. Expert knowledge of Public Health Nutrition. Knowledge and experience in working with diverse populations Completion of graduate level course in public health would be an asset.
