Director - Critical Care and Cardiac Sciences

The Director, Clinical Operations, working in close partnership with medical leadership, is accountable for the planning and delivery of high quality, accessible, sustainable, patient and family focused care for Chinook Regional Hospital Emergency Department, Intensive Care/Coronary Care Unit, Unit 4B, and Cardiorespiratory Services. As a program leader, the Director is accountable for the overall strategic implementation and operational planning for the Critical Care, Cardiac Services, ensuring the alignment with provincial program strategies and South Zone strategic and operational plans. This includes developing and implementing program plans, ensuring the effective deployment of resources, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and developing collaborative relationships with South Zone sites and provincial programs. As a zone program leader, the Director is expected to work collaboratively with other zone leaders to ensure programs are integrated and focused on improving patient care. The Director will also work with provincial teams and PINs (where applicable), to influence and inform provincial strategy development, implementation and integration.

A minimum of post-secondary education in a health profession. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Related graduate bachelor’s or master’s degree in a health discipline preferred. Registration with an Alberta Regulated Health Profession preferred.

Progressive leadership experience in a healthcare environment, including a minimum of three years’ experience in a management role in clinical services or health care operations for the assigned program(s), in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Demonstrated record of achievement as a manager, including extensive experience in improvement and innovation of services provided in a diverse clinical setting. Practical experience in strategy, policy development, project and program management. Uses strategic thinking, taking into account long-term goals assessing options and implications. Demonstrated ability to lead change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources within a complex environment. Strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation and commitment to providing long-term quality services. Experience in collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals. Clinical contract management experience is an asset. Leadership skills, including effective communication skills, demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.

Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within a large, diverse organization and managing within a unionized environment. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation among, and build solid relationships with public agencies, government, boards, committees and other partners.
