Description
Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a dependable, highly motivated individual for the position of Environmental Services II (cleaner/housekeeper) that is dedicated to both high-quality work and safety. This FT position is located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The Environmental II position is responsible for routine and isolation cleaning protocols, disinfecting of patient rooms, clinical spaces, common areas, floor maintenance and assigned medical equipment and manual material handling on a daily basis within healthcare facilities, in accordance with Alberta Health Services standards and practices. Environmental Services work is done in areas where patients, staff and visitors are present and involves frequent interactions with patients, clients and staff. This position will also perform non-routine and deep cleaning tasks as assigned, so you must be willing to work with powered industrial equipment. Work at this level is differentiated from the ESI by a broader range and variety of routine and non-routine cleaning tasks, increased level of independence and problem solving. Shift schedules may include a combination of day, evening, nights, and weekend shifts.
As an Environmental II, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with intensive or specialized cleaning within a hospital or facility associated with industrial cleaning supplies and by using powered industrial equipment. Your typical duties may include operating industrial cleaning equipment for floor maintenance, thorough washing of ceilings and windows and emptying hazardous waste. You may also provide training/orientation to Environmental staff.
Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Knowledge and operation of a computer including Microsoft Office. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift. Physically capable to lift, push and pull up to 30 lbs of force.
The ability to operate a smartphone device and basic computer knowledge to access email is required. To enable applicants to perform their duties safely, they must demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, understand, and follow written and oral directions in English. Must be dependable, thorough and be able to work with minimal supervision. The ability to work with chemical cleaners is required. The ability to operate powered industrial equipment is required. The ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs of force frequently is required. A combination of education, training and relevant experience may be considered. All new employees will be required to attend a 4-day Environmental Services Orientation and a 1-day AHS Orientation.
A minimum of 1 year of previous experience performing environmental cleaning duties in a hospital or institution is preferred. Previous knowledge and application of WHMIS is preferred. Previous Ergonomics and Workplace Health and Safety courses are an asset. Experience operating and maintaining various industrial equipment (e.g. auto-scrubber, burnisher) is an asset. Experience with floor refinishing, including stripping and waxing is an asset.
