Description
We are looking for a dynamic leader to provide direction and guidance for our Nutrition, Food, Linen & Environmental Services (NFLES), North Zone. This Executive Director position is an excellent opportunity for someone with several years of experience in a progressive health care leadership role. With your advanced knowledge and background, this is your chance to impact or shape our health system by providing excellence in quality essential services for patients and their families. The Executive Director reports directly to the Senior Operating Officer of NFLES. As a member of the NFLES provincial Senior Management team, the primary focus of this role is to strategically lead the designated multisite operational management teams to ensure the health and service needs of the zone are met. Patients rely on these services to increase their quality of health and lives. Your role greatly impacts the length of patients’ hospital stays by providing healthy, nutritious meals, sanitary linens, clean rooms, and removal of waste products which all contribute to a safe, healthy environment and their well-being. You lead with effective communication, ethical decision making, and a commitment to achieving established zone and NFLES priorities and objectives. You are passionate about patient care and managing the execution, planning, delivery and evaluation of Clinical Nutrition Services, Patient Food Services, Retail Food Services, Linen & Environmental Services and Portering Services. Please note: Preference will be given to qualified candidates who currently reside in the North Zone or who are willing to relocate. However, qualified applicants from other zones may be considered.
The Executive Director (ED) is an expert providing leadership and consultation across NFLES. In this unique role, the E.D. collaborates with a wide variety of stakeholders to ensure the overall strategic direction and operational plans are delivered while ensuring seamless alignment with the expectations of the organization. A crucial part of this role is to gain support and collaboration across the diverse NFLES groups while balancing zone and provincial priorities. Key areas of responsibilities include strategic planning, budget and resource management, people and change management, quality improvement and risk management. The role will focus on applying broad leadership expertise to support NFLES zone management teams in managing financial and operational performance and maintaining quality assurance initiatives. The NFLES portfolio will require collaboration and integration of zone-based management teams with provincial NFLES support and strategic groups including nutrition standards & practice, process improvement, quality monitoring, waste management, menu management, systems, performance & informatics reporting, capital equipment replacement, capital project planning, service and supply standards & contracts and workplace safety and contingency planning. As an integral part of NFLES, the E.D. will direct activities that allow the North zone to successfully achieve organizational objectives by continually analyzing processes and making necessary adjustments to maximize effectiveness while maintaining service standards. To ensure compliance with regulatory codes, guidelines and standards, the E.D. will be committed to continuous improvements and an environment that fosters a culture of safety for staff and patients by supporting hazard assessment, risk management, incident identification and root cause analysis.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Health Services Administration, Health Care Management or related health care field. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered. A minimum of 6 years’ experience in a progressive health care leadership role in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. A minimum of 5 years’ experience managing direct reports. Background and experience in Nutrition, Food, Linen & Environmental Services an asset.
The incumbent will possess a record of accomplishment in the following areas: Leadership skills including self-awareness and development, ability and comfort with decision making, coaching and teaching with an ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources within a complex environment. An ability to foster, build and maintain positive relationships, communications and collaboration with the immediate teams, the broader AHS provincial leadership teams, and external stakeholders. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, patient/customer focused orientation and commitment to quality. Strategic, big picture thinking with experience in the development of strategic operational plans and priority setting with multi stakeholder involvement, taking into account long-term goals assessing options and implications.
A Master’s Degree in a Health Sciences Discipline or equivalent level of education training and experience preferred
