The Youth Community Support Program (YCSP) within the Child and Adolescent Addiction and Mental Health and Psychiatry Program (CAAMHPP) is for youth ages 13-17 identified as frequent users of tertiary services and focuses on providing a collaborative, transdisciplinary enhanced approach. This position is located at Wood’s Homes but works closely with other AHS programs and community providers. The Family Counsellor is an advanced clinical position that will provide mental health services using assessment and therapy modalities and provides evidence-based, episodic treatment to adolescents. You will participate in program development and evaluation, be responsible for group facilitation and communicate clear, practical, evidence-based diagnoses, assessment findings, plans, and recommendations to the team, families and other service providers. Strong collaborative skills and client focus approach along with the ability to promote teamwork, an understanding of partnerships and connection with community partners and the ability to coordinate service delivery with other CAAMHPP services and staff is essential. As the Family Counsellor you may be involved in case conferences, therapeutic groups, staff meetings, professional development activities, student supervision, program planning, and other related duties. Intermediate to advanced computer skills is required. The incumbent is expected to work one evening per week. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Completion of master's degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Master of Nursing; Master of Social Work; Master of Occupational Therapy; or Psychology: Master of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Education, Ph. D, Ed. D Minimum 3 years’ experience in community mental health providing assessment and treatment with adolescents with a wide variety of mental health, developmental, learning and behavioral issues within the last 5 years. Training and experience in individual, group and family therapy modalities. Competency in using the DSM V diagnoses. Theoretical knowledge or experience with Trauma Informed Care and attachment based perspectives. Experience and skills in crisis assessment, intervention and treatment including but not limited to Suicide Risk assessments across a variety of settings.

Experience liaising with Children's Services, schools, health partnership initiatives, NGOs, multicultural groups and program development. Training and experience in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and/or other evidence-based modalities.
