Description
The Family Counselor provides direct clinical assessment and support for families experiencing acute mental health crisis. The Family counselor provides brief counselling interventions within The Summit Center for Youth Resilience - Walk In Program, and provides suggestions, resources and follow-up care that can be facilitated by the family within the patient home or community. The family counselors engage with families to identify pressing needs and resources to navigate through the mental health crisis of the patient and the family. Using a collaborative, focused, and supportive approach to short-term care. The Family counselor assists the family in identifying the most appropriate follow-up service for their specific needs. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.
Completion of master's degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
2+ years working with children and youth in a mental health program. Suicide Risk Assessment training. Training and working knowledge of DSM-5.
Brain Story Certification. Collaborative Problem-Solving experience. Previous experience working in a single session or walk in mental health program.
