The Arthur Child Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre (ACCC) has an opportunity for a Food Service Worker. Patient Food Services (PFS) is pleased to offer a patient focused room service model of meal service. This position will appeal to people eager to interact with patients to ensure a positive meal experience. This position will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure quality patient experience, including assisting patients with meal orders using electronic ordering system, delivery meals to patients, checking the meal meets patient expectations. Under the general supervision of the Food Service Supervisor, the Food Service Worker will perform other food service tasks, such preparing, handling, and portioning of food products; cleaning the food service area, soiled dish ware, and food service equipment; ordering and putting away food products; assembling meal trays; safety operate and clean commercial food service equipment; and collecting soiled dish ware from patient rooms. The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy; work under pressure in high stress situations; communicate effectively in English with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments; Work as an effective, professional team member; demonstrate a patient first approach; and perform basic math functions. The position involves medium to high physical demands tasks.

As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.

Computer related skills required. Ability to stand, bend, and walk for the entire shift required. Ability to lift up to 46 pounds frequently required. Occasional lifting about shoulder height required. Ability to push/pull up to 250 pounds without assistance frequently required. Customer service 1 year experience required. Food service 1 year experience required.

Experience in a hospital or long term care environment preferred. Knowledge of Epic and CBORD preferred. Knowledge of therapeutic diets and restrictions preferred. Food Safety Alberta Certificate preferred. WHMIS training preferred. Experience with inventory management; receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates and minimizing waste while utilizing First In, First Out procedures preferred. Experience with Industrial Food Service Equipment preferred.
