Description
Rockyview General Hospital (RGH) opened in 1966, it has since expanded to include the Holy Cross Ambulatory Care Centre, Highwood Tower, Urology Centre, and a state-of-the-art Emergency department. Future expansion plans include Gastrointestinal, Cardiac Care, and Intensive Care Units. RGH has approximately 5000 staff, 2600 physicians/residents and 500 volunteers. It is located next to Carewest Glenmore Park and the Southern Alberta Institute of Urology. Patient Food Services (PFS) provides meals and snacks for patients at RGH. Quality is achieved through nutritious food, exemplary customer service, and efficient meal delivery. The PFS menu is planned by registered dieticians based on the Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide and is adaptable for therapeutic requirements. Menu items are prepared onsite, using a combination of fresh, chilled and frozen ready to serve food. Delicious appealing food is prepared that encourages healthy eating based on flavour, texture, shape and traditional food combinations. Customer service is one of the pillars of PFS. Patients are given the opportunity to select their food choices and meals are delivered bedside by our friendly, professional PFS floor aides. Efficient food transportation to units is done by the Burlodge B-Pod system which is used to ensure food is heated/chilled to the correct temperature and ready at the appropriate time using advanced computer technology. PFS prepares and delivers healthy food for patients in a hospitable, well-organized, innovative manner.
As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.
Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.
Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English well. Capable & Willingness to be moved as requested by the supervisor with no notice. Must be reliable, cooperative, and neat in appearance and work habits. Ability to work independently. Must display good judgement and possess leadership qualities. Knowledge of safe food handling and routine sanitation procedures. Motor coordination and dexterity. Must maintain confidentiality and follow department guidelines and standards. Must be physically fit. Ability to understand simple instructions and simple calculations or drawings. Ability to pass literacy test as per department policy. Must have an excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be demonstrated through employment record and references. Basic knowledge of and experience with computer applications.
5-years Hospital Food service experience. 1-year Customer service experience. 1-year Rockyview Hospital Patient Food Service experience. Experience with inventory management; receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates, and minimizing waste while utilizing “First in- First Out” procedures. Experience with Industrial Food Service Equipment. Food Safe Certificate or equivalent. WHMIS training. Food service experience is an asset.
