Description
The Health Care Aide - Homecare provides personal care and support to clients in a community setting (including Thorhild, Redwater and surrounding areas). Work is assigned according to an established plan of care, in collaboration with the client, family and members of the interdisciplinary team. The Health Care Aide provides client care services as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), and may perform assigned Restricted Activities under specific circumstances. Documentation of pertinent information and care provision is required, as is participation in relevant in-service education. Responsibilities include providing direct care to assist in the activities of daily living, comfort and safety of the client and providing indirect services to support the overall provision of care in their assigned area. The Health Care Aide must demonstrate effective communication skills by using good listening, respectful tone of voice, respectful body language, and by communicating information both verbally and in writing with homecare clients, families, visitors and team members. Demonstrate strong task specific organizational skills. Strong observation skills. An ability to provide behavioral, emotional and physical support to homecare clients conveying respect and dignity for the client. Knowledge of computer applications is a requirement.
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.
Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
Recent HCA experience (within the last year) - working with older or chronically ill individuals is required. Able to work effectively and cooperatively with others, setting priorities by organizing and scheduling work-related activities is essential. Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility. Physically able to perform all assigned tasks which may involve physical exertion not limited to climbing, lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and carrying. You must be willing to work alone and/or with limited supervision. An excellent attendance record, reliability, and personal suitability must be demonstrated through employment references.
