Description
An exciting opportunity exists in AHS, Calgary Zone. The South Health Campus (SHC) is a full service hospital that provides services to Calgary in high need areas including Women’s Health, NICU, Emergency, Surgery and Mental Health. The SHC is more than just a “hospital”. It is a campus environment and includes inpatient, outpatient, and wellness services, as well as prevention and public health learning opportunities for the community. The campus also includes a YMCA and retail services. The Cardiac Inpatient Unit (ACU 66), working collaboratively with all the clinical teams spread across the South Health Campus, is in the process of hiring a Health Care Aide (HCA). Our unit offers a unique opportunity to work with acute General Internal Medicine and Cardiology patients in a modern environment. The HCA works as a key member of the interdisciplinary health care team and collaborates with staff to provide quality care to patients and families at the Campus. The HCA provides appropriate care, as delegated in accordance with Alberta Health Services polies, procedures and established standards. The incumbent demonstrates consideration of patients comfort, safety, privacy, dignity, independence and choice. As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.
Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
Graduation from an educational program using the Provincial Curriculum for Health Care Aides required. Current successful completion of BCLS-HCP is required. Must be able to communicate clearly in verbal and written English. The HCA working under the supervision of the Health Care Professional, either RN or LPN, is responsible for following the patients care plan using their knowledge skills and abilities to provide competent care. When a HCA does not feel competent to perform an assigned task will request guidance from the Health Care Professional.
Minimum 1 year experience on an acute medicine unit preferred. Knowledge and experience working in a Collaborative Care Hub (CoACT) preferred. Working knowledge of Epic - Connect Care preferred.
