Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join our education team located in Ponoka, Alberta. The Addiction and Mental Health Instructor is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of staff education, continuous quality/process improvement, clinical supervision, and project support within Inpatient Addiction and Mental Health for CCMHBI’s Senior’s Mental Health units and Seniors’ outreach. The position will work collaboratively with the other members of the Addiction and Mental Health Clinical Education team to achieve common goals and priorities to positively affect patient and family centered care, patient flow, staff education/clinical supervision and operational support. As the AMH educator you will utilize your clinical expertise, facilitation skills and demonstrated skills in integration of best practices into service delivery while supporting departmental goals. You will provide leadership in the assessment, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities for addiction and mental health staff including orientation, clinical development and continuing education. You will also participate in the development of clinical guidelines, protocols, procedures and processes as well as quality improvement activities. You will also work with Addiction and Mental Health leadership to do learning needs assessments, develop educational resources and deliver educational sessions relevant to the particular programs. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator in support of both nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary clinical team. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). You are either an RPN who is active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA) or an RN who is active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Minimum (5) years’ experience in Addiction and Mental Health with preference for previous experience on a Senior’s Mental Health unit. Knowledgeable in Addiction and Mental Health processes. Proficient computer skills (including PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel and Word). Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Preference will be given to applicants with instructors’ certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention & Mental Health First Aid. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing or Master’s Degree in Nursing. Previous experience with quality/process improvement initiatives or committees. Previous experience as an instructor in a health care field. Experience with data collection and analysis. Previous training as a Connect Care Superuser.
