Description
The Edmonton Zone, Continuing Care, Palliative and End of Life Care Programs (PEOLP) is recruiting a dynamic Instructor-Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) to join our team of skilled clinicians. This position reports to the Continuing Care, Program Manager for PEOLP and is based out of the Seventh Street Plaza but will require travel throughout the AHS Edmonton Zone to support staff and clients. Responsibilities and Competencies of the CNE: Extensive Connect Care Launch 9 sustainability support-including Super User responsibilities and other key work package support. Assists with the assessment of education needs of staff and the identification of appropriate learning resources. Develops, collates, facilitates, and evaluates education and tools pertaining to palliative and end of life care based on principles of adult learning for staff and/or patients. Advances the palliative approach to care within the community setting. Acts as a role model and resource to staff for professional development and clinical competency related to palliative and end of life care delivery. Works with an interdisciplinary team and consults with managers and stakeholders to determine learning needs and operational requirements. Supports and mentors new staff and encourages best practice related to palliative care. Organizes and facilitates relevant site-based training and workshops. Attends client visits and case conferences with clinical staff to discuss palliative client treatment and care plans. Provides leadership and expertise in evidence-based practice related to palliative and end of life care. Is a representative for or chairs meetings and committees, as required and relevant. Maintains competence in advanced clinical practice relevant to palliative care and acts as a consultant to teams regarding clinical issues.
As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
At minimum five years of recent experience (within the last two years) in palliative care: acute, community, and/or hospice. At minimum one year of experience as a frontline Case Manager in a community setting. At minimum one year of recent CNE/Instructor experience (within the last two years). Experience with development, implementation, facilitation and evaluation of education materials. Proven exemplary communication (verbal, non-verbal, and written), interpersonal, organizational, and peaceful conflict management and problem-solving skills are essential. Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities, along with the ability to work effectively in a self-directed environment are vital. Travel throughout the AHS Edmonton Zone. Physically capable of performing nursing tasks which may include, but not limited to, physical assessments, consulting with physicians and other team members. Openness and willingness to be coached by the team and leadership, when required.
Connect Care trained and experience. Baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in palliative care will be considered. Post graduate studies or certification in adult education and/or palliative care would be an asset.
