The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) position provides clinical support and education to the Stroke Inpatient Unit (Unit 3A) and Brain Injury Unit (4B). The CNE reports to the manager of Nursing Professional Practice and supports the Patient Care Manager for the Stroke Inpatient Unit and Brain Injury Inpatient Unit. The Instructor - CNE works in collaboration with the Nurse Practitioner and other clinical disciplines in a multidisciplinary team environment, to evaluate and ensure the delivery of current, best practice and rehab nursing to this adult population. Clinical support includes assisting with audits related to patient care, roll out of patient care activities, the evaluation of patient care activities, and the creation of educational materials for patients, families and staff. Other duties include identifying and promoting clinical competences for nursing staff through changes in policy, procedures, protocols, and technology. In addition, the CNE role supports site wide projects; function as a liaison for, collaborative care practice implementation and optimization, and Infection Prevention Control, including hand hygiene and annual influenza campaign.

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or equivalent (required). 5 years recent experience in tertiary level care, Stroke rehabilitation nursing, or minimum 5 years’ experience in medical/surgical. Experience with developing education materials for both staff and patients and families (required). Experience with Connect Care.

Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Clinical Nurse Educator (preferred). BLS Instructor Certification (preferred). Must be able to work independently, and be self-directed with exemplary organizational, and communication skills. Experience with planning and providing education to staff and exemplary teaching skills. Must have good computer skills specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
