Description
AHS is looking for a Clinical Nurse Educator to join our Women and Children’s Health team at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. MHRH is a full-service hospital that provides services to areas including: Women’s Health, NICU, ER, Surgery, and Mental Health. Reporting to the manager, the CNE uses adult learning principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the educational needs of the staff for the Labour and Delivery, Maternal Child units, Maternal Fetal Assessment and Colposcopy clinic. MHRH LDR includes 4 assessment beds, 6 labour beds, 2 pre-op beds, and 2 PARU beds; Maternal Child unit includes 14-beds where the focus of care is Maternal-Child, gynecology, and low-risk medical-surgical patients; Maternal Fetal Assessment clinic focuses on prenatal care for high-risk patients; Colposcopy clinic is a fast flow clinic caring for patients needing colposcopy procedure. The CNE facilitates, coordinates, and supports the implementation of educational initiatives for orientation, mandatory education, and continuing education. The CNE is responsible for ensuring clinical competence of staff through changes in policy, procedure, and protocols; ensuring educational resources are updated and reflect new/revised policies; developing, coordinating, and facilitating quality improvement initiatives; contributing to the development, implementation, and sustainability of process improvement strategies; and reviewing information from best practice surveys, published studies, literature reviews and zone/provincial documents in order to inform, optimize, and/or recommend change. The CNE will be responsible for creating/revising documents, networking with colleagues both within and outside MHRH. CNE has a leadership role in orientation, compulsory and continuing education.
As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator in support of both nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary clinical team. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Baccalaureate in Nursing Degree. Minimum 3 years of recent Women and Children Health experience. Experience in labour and delivery, antepartum, postpartum, post anesthetic recovery, and newborn care. A willingness to learn new skills as required. Meet the physical demands of the job. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required for this position. Demonstrated history of positive attitude, knowledge of adult education principles, and ability to communicate, teach and mentor effectively. Proficient in Connect Care. Up to date Required Organizational Learning.
Masters degree in nursing with focus on adult education. Prior/current experience as a CNE, adult educator, college/university instructor. Experience and involvement with quality improvement initiatives. Experience in project planning, monitoring, and evaluation. Knowledge in relevant specialty area (NRP; FHS; MoreOB; ACORN; Breastfeeding; IV initiation, management, drug administration, blood administration/management; spinal/epidural anesthesia; HELP(STORK); and knowledge of perinatal pathways)
