Description
Reporting to the Program Manager of ACARP, the Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) works as a key member of the multidisciplinary ACARP team at the University of Alberta Hospital. This is a newly created team, and the successful candidate will be integral in the development of its cohesiveness. The CNE collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to deliver patient-centered, trauma-informed, and evidence-based care for patients who use substances. By using a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach, the team strives to holistically support patients who want help for problematic substance use. Responsible for the leadership of education for designated staff to support clinical competencies, organizational standards/practices/guidelines and patient and family centered care. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in providing education for designated staff. Leads, develops, and supports educational initiatives for orientation, mandatory education, and continuing education, changes in policies, procedures and protocols to promote clinical competence for staff. Utilizes adult learning principles when developing education and responding to educational needs of staff. Participates in quality improvement strategies and activities. Acts as a role model and resource to all staff for professional development and clinical competency. Collaborates with the interprofessional team at the unit, department, site, zone and provincial level as necessary. Uses legal and ethical principles to influence, design and implement policies and practice documents. Works collaboratively with UAH staff throughout the hospital about patient care plans and goals in order to better facilitate recovery and safe discharge. Critical in supporting education throughout the site to help foster the development of skills of staff providing direct patient care.
As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training. Bachelor’ Degree in Nursing. Motivational Interviewing. Demonstrated experience working with patients with substance use disorders. Demonstrated experience in planning, coordination and implementation of educational initiatives. Demonstrated experience developing relationships with stakeholders. Minimum 2 years working in acute care. Minimum 5 years in a leadership or educator positions. Connect Care experience.
Masters Degree in Nursing preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in the assessment of patients with substance use disorder. Knowledge of screening tools used for assessments of substance use and treatments. Demonstrated ability to support patient’s transition to community resources to ensure continuity of care. Strong communication skills. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and to positively engage teams.
