The Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) is one of two Tertiary Trauma Centers in the City of Edmonton and one of the busiest Emergency Departments in Canada. Centrally located in Edmonton’s downtown core, the RAH serves a diverse community, including some of our province’s most vulnerable and marginalized population. The RAH Emergency department cares for patients with major trauma, cardiac events, injuries, and general medical problems. Our staff are dedicated to improving patient and provider experience through ‘The Royal Alex Way’. We are motivated and strive towards excellence; embracing our inner-city pride. The Emergency Department at RAH is a highly acute and challenging setting for nursing practice. Our patients encompass a diverse socio-economic spectrum and multi-cultural backgrounds. We are looking for experienced, passion-driven Licensed Practical Nurses that have experience working with similar populations. Due to the diverse nature of patients seen, nurses use a wide variety of clinical skills including critical thinking. The successful candidate will administer safe and effective nursing care in accordance with hospital policies and nursing care standards.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Demonstrated excellent assessment, organization and patient care skills required along with the ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner. Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating priorities and workloads. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Must be able to identify own learning needs and seek guidance in professional practice where knowledge deficits occur.

Minimum 1 year emergency nursing experience within the last two years. Preference will be given to those with one or more of the following certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Certified Emergency Nurse (C.N.A. or C.N.E.). Acute/Critical Care experience, within the last two years. Preference will be given to applicants with recent experience in a tertiary care facility Emergency Department.
