We have an exciting opportunity in our program for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) within the Alberta Kidney Care - North (AKC-N) program. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Decisions are made in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The LPN provides patient and family centered care to acute and chronic renal failure patient populations. The LPN practices nursing care according to Hemodialysis Nursing Specialty Scope of Practice, regulating body, clinical policies, and nursing standards. This position is based in the Norwood Hemodialysis unit. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills. Demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities. Must be able to provide direction to other health care workers. Must have basic computer skills. Ability to work independently and in conjunction with other team members. Demonstrate ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workload. Demonstrate initiative, accountability, interpersonal and communication skills. Successful candidate must be able to lift 40lbs (18kg). Advanced Practice Standards 3-10 & 16-17 required. These can be found in the Competency Profile for LPNs - 5th Edition on the CLPNA website. Must be able to attend Hemodialysis training in Edmonton or Red Deer. Hemodialysis Training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer depending on classroom/instructor availability. The training is an intensive 4-week full time schedule with an additional 2 weeks of full-time buddy shifts. A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to 2 weeks full time buddy shifts. Upon successful completion of the orientation the LPN will be able to proceed to the unit specific orientation - 2 weeks of buddy shifts as assigned by the Unit Manager. Upon successful completion of Orientation and buddy shifts, the candidate will be scheduled and required to attend a mandatory 1-day Post-Orientation in Edmonton or Red Deer within 3 to 4 months of hire.

Minimum 1-2 years recent Adult Acute Care experience. Recent nephrology nursing and/or hemodialysis training. Connect Care Experience.
