Description
Unit 57 & 47 D is a 41 bed general medicine unit with a primary focus on Hospitalist patients, but also cares for a variety of patients from other populations such as, GI, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Oncology, General Internal Medicine, etc. As a LPN on this unit, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient and family-centered nursing care while working in a collaborative care nursing model. Unit 57 is a good fit for an LPN who enjoys having a variety of complex medical patients, works well within an interdisciplinary team atmosphere, and enjoys a fast paced work environment. Our unit provides LPNs with opportunity to advance their skillset in many areas such as complex wound care, managing central line access, developing effective patient care plans, navigating complex behaviors of patients, completing comprehensive assessment skills. You will also have the opportunity to mentor new staff and teach students. On Unit 57 we pride ourselves with a welcoming atmosphere and supportive environment for all new and current staff. We are actively seeking team members who are committed to a high level of professionalism and the practice of medical nursing. You must be able to be on your feet for extended periods of time. You will be required to lift, bend and push a variety of weights while maintaining safe body mechanics stipulated by AHS It’s Your Move patient handling program.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Completion of the following CLPNA learning Modules a) Understanding Restricted Activities b) Medication administration via Central lines c) Medication Administration of Parental Nutrition d) Bladder Scanning, Immunization and Blood Administration Learning Modules (Please bring proof of completion if called for Interview).
At least 6 months experience as a bedside nurse working in acute care medicine in the last three years. Previous nursing experience on Unit 32/62/57 at FMC. Experience working with CVADs & PCAs. Experience with sensory/cognitively impaired older adults. Experience with complex wound care (VAC dressing). Experience with CoACT. Discharge planning experience. Required Organizational Learning up to date. “See The Person” course an asset.
