Description

Located at Alberta Hospital Edmonton, the Young Adult Evaluation, Treatment and Reintegration Service (Unit 12-A) is a short stay, fast-paced 26-bed acute care psychiatric program for medically stable clients who are between 17 and 26 years of age. This program is intended for clients diagnosed with a primary axis I disorder who require recovery-based support and interventions as they transition from an acute phase of illness toward stabilization. As a member of a collaborative interdisciplinary team, the LPN practices to full scope as defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). The LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in accordance with AHS values and the Edmonton zone Addiction & Mental Health Principles of Care. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
One year of recent (within past three years) experience in an Adult Acute Addiction/ Mental Health nursing role. Working knowledge of relevant legislation is required, including the Alberta Mental Health Act and the Health Information Act. Working knowledge of psychotropic medications and psychopathology. Working knowledge of trauma-informed care principles is required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as demonstrated accountability are required.
Education and experience that specializes in Adolescent/Young Adult Addiction and Mental Health assessment and treatment are preferred. Working knowledge of the CoACT model of care is an asset. Working knowledge of harm reduction model preferred.
