Licensed Practical Nurse

Providing safe, ethical nurse care, the Licensed Practical Nurse integrates knowledge, skills and ability to ensure ongoing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care for patients aged 0 - 18 years of age recovering from brain Injury, spinal cord Injury and post-operative, complex orthopedic procedures. Working in the primary and team nursing model, the Licensed Practical Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary care team who facilitates collaborative planning with the patient and family central to the decision-making process, following the principles of Family Centred Care. Responsibilities include participation in activities and initiatives aimed at promoting, maintaining and improving quality care and safety for patients, families and caregivers. The Licensed Practical Nurse is reliable and maintains a high degree of professionalism in this role.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Knowledge and experience in child development required. Working knowledge of contributing factors and concerns/priorities of children with chronic conditions and developmental disabilities. Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills when working with complex families and patients. Demonstrate ability to work in family centered care environment is required. The ideal candidate will be a self-directed, highly motivated LPN who possesses strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Must have a demonstrated commitment to continuing education.

Minimum three years LPN experience preferred. Experience in Pediatrics and strong health assessment skills combined with recent orthopedic nursing experience is preferred.
