Licensed Practical Nurse

Reporting directly to the Manager of Addiction & Mental Health, and taking direction from the Clinical Supervisor of Assertive Outreach Services, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills to provide care to individuals with severe and persistent addiction and mental health challenges with complex needs including homelessness. The LPN provides care in alignment with Alberta Health Services’ mission to provide patient focused quality health services and the AHS values of compassion, accountability, respect, excellence and safety. The LPN collaborates and participates in the provision of health care to patients and families in a variety of settings, with primary setting at Rotary House. The LPN’s practice encompasses the application of nursing knowledge, skills and judgement to assess patient needs and provides nursing care that is reflective of their level of education and knowledge. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

The LPN adheres to CLPNA Professional Practice Standards and Code of Ethics, and the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Code of Conduct and applicable AHS governance documents and policies.

The LPN is responsible for his/her nursing practice as defined by CLPNA and for ensuring that his/her registration is current and valid within his/her scope of practice.
