The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a regulated member of the inter-professional healthcare team who utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills to provide care to patients and families across the life span. The Spine LPN provides nursing care for patients and families for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, or restoring health and preventing illness, injury and disability. The LPN works alongside other nursing disciplines such as Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Clinicians, Registered Nurses, and Health Care Aides. A strong commitment to teamwork is required, as well as excellent inter-professional communication. The LPN is responsible for collaborating care with many other disciplines, including physicians, OT, PT, and SW as part of the comprehensive multidisciplinary team. The Spine Unit is fast paced, physically challenging and emotionally rewarding because of the complex patient population. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Physically able to perform all assigned tasks: Lifting and transferring patients as required.

One to two years’ experience in an acute post-operative / surgical setting. Previous spine nursing experience. Previous experience on Unit 101. Previous neuroscience nursing experience. Previous experience orientating new staff or preceptoring students. Connect Care experience.
