As the LPN covering the community of Viking and surrounding area, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people in your community. Reporting to the Care Manager, you will use your strong assessment, organizational, and leadership skills to deliver quality nursing care to clients in the community and to provide leadership and supervision of Health Care Aides. The successful candidate will play a key role on the interdisciplinary team, collaborating in the delivery of holistic, client and family centered care. Your role will require you to work independently in client homes, lift and carry medical bags and be comfortable working in all weather conditions. In this role, you will utilize your strong oral and written communication and deliver quality nursing care to clients in all developmental stages in the community. Utilizing your experience in wound care, palliative care and client teaching, you will take a collaborative approach to meeting health goals, contribute to the nursing diagnosis and participate in nursing interventions and outcomes. Viking is located approximately 136 km southeast of Edmonton, Alberta. You can live rurally, but also get the benefit of living within 1 hour and half from the capital city. There is much to see and do in Viking. Have a look through the Carena Complex which includes an 850-seat NHL size ice surface arena, a fitness/wellness center for all ages, the municipal library, indoor activity center, the Viking preschool and an indoor walking/running track.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Competence in relevant technical nursing skills and a willingness to learn new skills as required. Basic computer skills. Good communication skills and the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Must be able to work in an interdisciplinary team environment as well as to work independently to full scope of LPN practice. Demonstrated ongoing responsibility for maintaining own continuing competence through professional development activities. Able to meet the physical demands of the position. At least 3 years recent acute care and/or Home Care experience.

Experience with RAI-MDS/inter-RAI HC assessment tool and computer charting. Experience with Connect Care.
