Licensed Practical Nurse

Reporting to the Manager of the Inner-City Health & Wellness Program, the LPN works as a key member of the multidisciplinary ARCH team. The Addiction and Mental Health Team is committed to the alleviation of stigma and discrimination related to addiction and mental health. The LPN collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to deliver a patient-centred, trauma-informed approach to care practicing within a harm reduction philosophy. The goal of the ARCH team is to provide patient-centred, evidence-based, holistic care to patients who are socially vulnerable and/or dealing with problematic mental health and/or substance use. By using a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach, the team strives to support at-risk patients who want to improve their social determinants of health. The role includes providing comprehensive physical and mental health assessments, delivery of harm reduction supplies, supervised consumption clinical interventions and education, take-home naloxone kit distribution and other education and support. The LPN also works collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team including providing consultation support for other staff caring for patients accessing the supervised consumption service. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Experience working with inner city/vulnerable populations. Minimum 2 years working in acute care. Demonstrated ability to practice within a harm reduction framework. Active listening skills. Ability to maintain a calm and tactful composure under a broad range of challenging circumstances think clearly and stay focused under pressure. Connect Care experience.

Familiarity with the Mental Health Act is an asset.
