The Clinical Trials Unit supports the Principal Investigators in conducting research studies at AHS/UofA and within the Edmonton zone. Embedding research, innovation and analytic capacity in the healthcare system helps ensure AHS provides patient-focused, quality healthcare to more than four million Albertans. Come be part of exciting leading-edge research and join our team of professionals in the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU). The CTU is recruiting for a LPN to provide support for clinical research trials. You will be assigned to the Gastrointestinal and Liver Disease Research (GILDR) group at the Zeidler Ledcor Centre. The responsibilities of this position includes identifying/ recruiting participants in research studies, obtaining informed consent, study visits, dispensing study medication, collecting/entering data in clinical trial database, and reviewing/filing of study documents in the Investigator Trial File. As a LPN, you will require exceptional organizational skills that are necessary to ensure trial information is timely, accurate, valid and to the sponsor's satisfaction. The main component of this role is to ensure As an LPN in the CTU you shall harness professionalism and strong interpersonal skills to effectively manage and communicate with participants on the studies. It is vital that you demonstrate the insight of when to escalate/report participant clinical concerns to nursing staff and/or Investigator. Working under limited supervision, you will perform tasks requiring independent judgement and confidentiality. You must be able to handle multiple demands while remaining flexible to accept new workload as necessary. To be successful in this role, you will require excellent problem-solving, organizational skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Minimum 1-2 years of experience working in a clinical research environment. Current/previous experience working in Hepatology and Gastroenterology. Trained in Phlebotomy and current access to Netcare & Connect Care. Highly motivated, self-directed, enthusiastic with proven problem-solving abilities. Demonstrates ability to take initiative and work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment. Ability to be flexible, multitask and work well under pressure. Effectively coordinate simultaneous projects and successfully prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines. Work efficiently and in a professional and ethical manner in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, GCP and ICH guidelines, SOPs and Policies. Excellent communication and precise documentation skills. Knowledge of MS Word & Excel, Gmail, Data Entry programs.

Experience working with Pharmaceutical Sponsors and Contract Research Organizations. Good Clinical Practice and Health Canada Division 5 certificate.
