Licensed Practical Nurse

The endocrinology LPN reports to the Diabetes and Endocrinology Clinic Manager. The LPN is an important part of an interdisciplinary team that ensures appropriate patient care in an outpatient setting. The LPN plays a key role in the support of an integrated and holistic approach to the patient's healthcare and health promotion. Applying the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills the LPN is responsible for the initial clinic assessment including in person or telephone triaging, and coordination of patient in the for both endocrinology and diabetes program. The LPN will need to prepare insulin pump data for review in the diabetic clinic visits. The LPN will liaison between the interdisciplinary team and other providers to support the patient.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Connect Care and Netcare experience. Current experience within the last 3 years in an Ambulatory Care setting required. Must be able to participate in the hands on care of patients (i.e. transfers, bariatric patients, bending, twisting, walking distances). Must be able to lift and carry 10-15 kg regularly. Must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs.. Experience working with Microsoft Office. Must have excellent communication and documentation skills and the ability to participate as an interdisciplinary team member. Must also be able to work independently and needs to have high organization and prioritization skills.

Experience working with insulin pumps. Experience with providing patient education.
