Description
A Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family centred care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with RAH and AHS policy and procedures. PCU 410 is a 28-bed unit providing care to primary hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty patients as well as general orthopedic patients. Patients are mostly received from the operating room, but may also come from the emergency department, and directly from other inpatient units. We have collaborative care nursing on all shifts with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and health care aides working collaboratively. LPNs are expected to direct and monitor the care provided by health care aides and support their RN peers. This job is physically demanding, the incumbent will be required to assist with lifting, turning, and mobilizing patients as well as other physical tasks.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Previous Arthroplasty experience required. Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and priority setting skills required. Demonstrated reliability required. Able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Basic computer skills are required. Experience with Connect Care preferred. Experience with ESP preferred. Experience with Nurse Call Responder 5 preferred. Experience with VernaCare System preferred. Direct IV, PICC, care of spinal anesthesia patients experiences preferred.
