U33 is the Neurology and Medicine unit at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. We are an acute care inpatient unit that houses the Central Zone Neurologist and Red Deer Stroke Programs, functioning as the zone’s primary care centre for stroke and neurology patients. You will receive specialized and advanced training in these populations as well as valuable experience in a wide range of internal medicine and hospitalist level patients, helping you develop an exceptional range of nursing skills. The unit uses Collaborative Care where teams of RNs, LPNs, and HCAs work together to their full scopes alongside a vast interdisciplinary team. This allows staff to grow and support each other each and every day. Extensive educational opportunities are provided as the unit strives to provide stroke unit care at the same levels as Edmonton and Calgary. Mentorship, leadership, quality improvement, and professional development pathways are always available so that nurses can work towards their unique career goals. Of course, the unit also encourages our people to maintain a healthy work and lifestyle balance so that nurses from all walks of life can work and thrive. New hires can look forward to a comprehensive and in-depth orientation that gradually mentors them into higher levels of confidence and leadership alongside their nursing teammates. Of course, like all acute care medical units, each shift provides new challenges and experiences wrapped in what seems like organized chaos. However, our work family overcomes this by promoting patience, empathy, peer support, communication, and of course humour and levity. This allows us to care for each other as well as our patients. If these traits describe you, come join a diverse work family full of decent humans just like you!

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
