Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse works in the Acute Care and Emergency settings. Staff provide care to emergency patients and to acute medical inpatients. This combined unit fosters a strong collaborative team environment with Nurses, Physicians, Unit Clerks, and Health Care Aides. The rural generalist nurse provides care to a diverse cohort of patients. Unit specific orientation is required prior to providing care. This position will report to the Unit Manager - Rocky Mountain House and will support two programs: Acute Care and Emergency. The LPN will be committed to providing open communication and feedback with respect for colleagues, care providers, patients and families. The LPN will also work as a member of a health care team, collaborating on the delivery of care to meet the needs of the patients/clients. The LPN participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care and should expect to work to their full scope of practice. This position offers the opportunity for both personal and professional development within a variety of teams. Your orientation will consist of online learning, classroom time and buddy shifts to the units. Extended orientation for new grads is available. The place of work is in a community designated for Canada Student Loan Forgiveness. You may be eligible for Canada Student Loan forgiveness if you meet other eligibility requirements.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

As required.

Education in CTAS, Cardiac Arrest management (CAM) Basic and Advanced or ACLS, Trauma 101 or TNCC, Pediatric Building Blocks or PALS, and ENPEP. IV and CVAD competency. Other courses and training applicable to the rural acute and emergency setting an asset.
