Description
Under the direction of the Pre-Admission Clinic Manager, the LPN is responsible for assessing the needs of pre-operative patients, for education, and optimization for surgery using the Nursing Process and within LPN Scope of Practice. Pre-operative assessments of the patient’s medical history and teaching are conducted by telephone interview and/or in the clinic. The LPN provides support to physician consultants, participates in and supports medical and nursing research activities, and demonstrates professional accountability in all aspects of dealing with the public. The LPN demonstrates competence in delivering safe, effective, and efficient care for patients in the Orthopedic Inpatient Unit in accordance with all elements of the current job description for Licensed Practical Nurses. Is responsible and accountable for their practice, according to the standards defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) Standards of Practice and completes care within their scope of practice. Direct Nursing care includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for assigned patients and works in consultation with RN colleagues and others.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Must have a minimum of 2 years in surgical nursing experience, within the past 3 years, in order to provide thorough and skilled pre-op and post operative assessment and teaching within the Pre-Admission Clinic. To be successful, the candidate must be able to assess and collect information from clients while using computer tools and information entry. A minimum typing speed of 35 WPM is a must. Intermediate computer skills are also a requirement for this position. Excellent English language skills required. Evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
Demonstrated proficiency in clinical surgical and medical assessment skills within scope of practice. Demonstrated strong critical thinking skills. Demonstrated effective patient teaching experience (both written and verbal). Demonstrated high functioning time-management. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills through computer, verbal and written means.
