The Adult Acute Inpatient Addiction & Mental Health Unit at the University of Alberta Hospital is a dynamic and fast paced adult acute mental health unit dedicated to best practice patient and family centered care. Care is delivered by an interdisciplinary collaborative care team in accordance with the Edmonton zone Addiction & Mental Health program’s Principles of Care and AHS values. As a member of the collaborative interdisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, implementation and evaluation of patient care. The successful incumbent performs a variety of nursing duties by administering safe, effective, stage-matched nursing care according to clinical policies, procedures and evidenced-based nursing care standards. The incumbent works within a concurrent capable, recovery-oriented framework, within the context of a multidisciplinary team. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

As required.

A working knowledge of the DSM 5, Mental Health Act, Mental Status Assessment, trauma informed care, harm reduction, and Psychotropic medications. Two years of recent adult addiction and mental health inpatient nursing experience is preferred. Experience with Connect Care is an asset. Experience working in Addiction and Mental Health.
