Description
This position is based in the Pre-Admission Clinic (PAC), and the Short Stay Surgery Unit at the University of Alberta Hospital - the successful applicant will be required to work in all areas. Both areas are integral components of the Operative Services Portfolio at the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH). The University of Alberta Hospital is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. A Level 1 Trauma Center, the UAH provides surgical access to various specialties including, Neurosurgery, OHNS, Urology, General Surgery, Ortho Trauma, Plastics, Burns, Spine, iMRI, and Solid Organ Transplant Services. As a member of the multidisciplinary team caring for adult patients, the Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in accordance with UAH policies and procedures. The Licensed Practical Nurse will provide care, support, advocacy, and education for the adult patient, their families, and caregivers. Responsibilities include: Preparation of adult surgical patients undergoing scheduled elective surgeries. Post-op (phase 2 recovery), and discharge of Adult Day Surgery and Extended Day Surgery patients. The PAC nurse completes relevant pre-operative assessments and provides the necessary patient and/or family education during a Pre-admission visit, both in person and/or virtually. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
