Description
Reporting to the Manager and Clinical Supervisor this position will work in Community Mental Health and Addictions as part of the outpatient clinic, primarily supporting Walk-in Single Session Counselling out of the Sheldon Kennedy Center of Excellence on the Red Deer Polytech grounds. The clinician will provide single session therapy to walk-in children, youth and families. The MHC will be supported in intersession from the clinical supervisor and consultation team. Consultation with relevant stake holders is a key aspect in connecting clients with community agencies and other resources to support clients to meet their needs. Group development and facilitation will also be part of the job description. Other duties may be assigned that align with the scope of the role. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews, and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Registered Occupational Therapists.
Completion of a master's degree in psychology; a bachelor's degree in social work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention; a master's or bachelor's degree in occupational therapy with similar educational components; a bachelor's degree in nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling; or a bachelor's degree in psychiatric nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
2 years counselling experience. Registration with a licensing body under the Health Professions Act with ability to practice Restricted Activity Psychosocial Intervention in Alberta is required. Minimum bachelor’s degree in related field.
Training in Single session therapy, solution focused therapy and motivational interviewing. Experience working with children, youth and families in a mental health setting.
